The volunteers

We are always looking for volunteers to support us in Rio teaching sports and/or language and math classes. There are some requirements for volunteers and interns from Estrela da Favela.

Requirements for volunteers:

  • A good basic knowledge of Portuguese is a requirement for those wishing to do an internship or volunteer work at Estrela da Favela.
  • A VOG, a Certificate of Good Conduct. We are particularly keen on (sexual) undesirable behavior and will not hesitate to involve the authorities if necessary.
  • No drug buying or selling and drug use in the neighborhood, nor intimate relationships with Mangueira residents.
  • Travel and liability insurance.


Estrela da Favela unfortunately cannot reimburse travel and accommodation expenses.We can, however, help find good accommodation.

We are also looking for people who want to get involved in promotion and fundraising in the Netherlands.​

All over the world, people are organizing events to raise money for Estrela da Favela. Would you also like to organize an event? Then get in touch via email.

You can also set up actions for Estrela da Favela. For example, Mark Koelen cycled from Olympia in Greece and then to Rio de Janeiro via Los Angeles. They also organized a sloop tour in Amsterdam, ran marathons and even rowed a hundred kilometers. Such activities ensure the progress of Estrela da Favela.

Singer Fleurine even donated the entire proceeds of her CD to Estrela.
