EDUCATION & GIRLS
Estrela da Favela is a Brazilian-Dutch NGO in Mangueira, Rio de Janeiro, where children aged 5 to 17 receive education, sports, music and essential life skills. Extra attention is given to girls, who are often overlooked in this macho-dominated society.
SAFE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Every day we give (tutoring) lessons in math, Portuguese, history, geography and English. In the “girls’ club,” girls have a safe place to talk freely. Parents/caregivers are also actively involved in their children’s development with regular parent meetings.
SPORTS & CULTURE
There are beachtennis, soccer and music lessons every week, and we regularly organize trips to museums, exhibitions and sporting events.
