In our series “behind the scenes at Estrela da Favela,” meet the always calm and positive Joice, who has been working with us for five years as an educator and (kindergarten) teacher.
Who is Joice?
I would describe myself as calm, understanding and I always do my best. I also always want the best for everyone. I was born in the city of Paracambi and raised in Japeri. Since I got married, I have been living in Nova Iguaçu.
I am married to Fernando, with whom I have two beautiful children, Náilla aged 10 and Hector aged 7. My biggest dream is to build my own house.
Work
I am an educator and I am a teacher at Instituto Estrela da Favela. My work focuses on values, citizenship, personal care and health. I also tutor to reinforce results in school. For variety, we use games and videos a lot. In addition, we tell stories and discuss issues from everyday life
Why do I work at Estrela da Favela? I would like to contribute to the story of many children. I want to be remembered by them later as the teacher who helped them to be an important person.
Moments
One of the best moments at Estrela da Favela was the inauguration of our kitchen. From then on, lunches and snacks were available for the children. This is very important for many children.
I hope to forever remember the faces of every child of Estrela da Favela who has been with us.
Future
In five years, I hope Estrela da Favela will be even better than it is today. I am convinced that we will have a larger space where we will be able to have more activities. Then we will be able to do an even better job.
